Time flies when having fun (making pots :)

Hi there!

It's often said that...

'Time flies when you're having fun!' Well, January certainly flew by, and we're now starting February '25!

For me though, it is often a challenge to get started at this time of the year. On these dark, cold, winter mornings, being thankful for a new day isn't always spontaneous!

However, the joy that energises me isn't dependent on a season or the weather, especially on a day when I put the kiln on for another firing.

I'm so keen and it's such fun!

Having packed the kiln with newly glazed pots the night before, everything is ready to be switched on by 8.00am the following day.

Because the colours can often vary in the firing I never really know how the pots are going to turn out…

So there's always that feeling of anticipation and excitement when I open the kiln door 24 hours later after it's cooled.

In January we had the delights of 8 new coffee cups, and the glazes on them look absolutely wonderful.

I also had the idea to make some buttons for a cardigan I'd recently finished knitting.

And they've also turned out looking like gems with their beautiful glaze.

I will send you some photos of the finished cardigan next month.

It's always worth a try when you have a new idea.

I apply the glazes by painting, rather than dipping the pots into glaze. This gives them their unique look with their colour variations.

Just like the colour changes of the bay views (dusk below)...

I have a few ideas lined up for this month, trying out new glaze combinations and making different sized bowls and dishes and of course, some more of those speciality coffee cups.

I'm looking forward to more lovely, unexpected surprises as the month of February unfolds and the light of dawn gets brighter and brighter.

Thank you so much for reading these little updates in our new Morecambe Bay pottery adventure.

Feel free to share it with your friends and family.

I hope the newsletter will be a blessing and a joy to anyone who reads it.

With Love.

Abi.
